ARTIST STATEMENT

Walter Benjamin has said that “living is about leaving traces”.  I try to use this observation literally in making artwork about visiting a place outside my regular haunts. So whenever I travel to a different spot in the world, whether to deliver an art work, set up an exhibition, or attend an artist residency or conference, I accumulate experiences and small items that I use to create a picture about that place.  The experiences are documented in photographs while the collected items provide another level to the reality of "experiencing".  Because many of the photos are taken while walking around, exploring, I use multi-paned windows to allude to the movement of time and space that has occurred.
