ARTIST STATEMENT

My current body of work combines the last 15 years of working abstractly with recurring representational elements, which include knotted forms, corporeal shapes and watery spaces. The common thread of the knot provides visual structure in the works, both tying together elements and anchoring them in space; they may be both supportive and restrictive. Where the knots take on a powerful form, the corporeal shapes struggle, play, worship, and murmur in engagement. Hands grasp, fly, and manipulate. Legs animate and open. Eyes look back at the viewer. Heads float on the crests of the water. It is the collective human experience that is the most personal and spiritual.
