ARTIST STATEMENT

My name is Mitch Larson and I am an analogue photographer currently living in South Jersey. What I love most about shooting on film is how tactile the entire process is. Choosing the perfect roll of film, opening up the back of the camera and threading the film leader neatly into the take-up spool. A firm press down to fire the shutter, followed closely by an elongated pull on the advance lever. A story, a person, a place, a moment, all frozen in time, one by one over 36 frames.

After being introduced to photography with a DSLR, I came to film in order to slow down and create a deeper connection to the images I was shooting. For me, everything with film photography is part of an intentional process which creates a bond between myself and my camera from the moment I position myself to compose an image, all the way through the final chemical development process. I love picking up a camera and seeing what around me inspires intention and thought.
