Beginning my career over twenty years ago as an illustrator, my early work involved building layers in Photoshop sourced from various materials to create collages. I eventually learned that I enjoyed experimenting on the computer more than following the sketch I had created for the art director. This digital exploration, coupled with my formal education in traditional media, served as a foundation for my mixed media abstract art. Unlike my early illustration work that started with a sketch, my abstract art begins intuitively as I build and remove layers using acrylic paint, cut and torn paper, and drawing media. I then use my design skills to respond to what is before me and refine the composition. Inspired by nature and the juxtaposition of man made artifacts against the landscape, I utilize color, shape and texture to evoke a sense of movement that represents time and space, thus creating an imaginary landscape for the viewer to experience.
