ARTIST STATEMENT
I’ve come to art late in life. Because of this, I feel like my overall artistic vision is still a work in progress. I like working in mixed media for the exploratory space it offers and for the many, many materials it incorporates‚Äîold and new materials that can be experimented with, manipulated, pulled apart, grafted, compounded, and integrated into larger aesthetic constructs. In my work, I enjoy the process of gathering vintage, handmade, and upcycled objects and building fantasy landscapes around one or two evocative focal pieces. Much of my work begins with a sense of nostalgia but eventually comes to embrace loss, isolation, stagnation, and other shadows of the nostalgic, so that both innocent veneer and stripped-down reality can appear in the same image.
