Psychologists speak of transitional objects which besides being symbolic, in the mind of a child, are felt to be that actual object. This may be why we can become attached to a piece of art. These pieces may have that property for some viewers, but more generally they can inspire a conceptual dynamic and a physical one in terms of their composition.
