Artist Statement

Since I began tattooing in 1995, a large majority of the art that I create has been done with the intent of being tattooed. This process involves illustrating the clients vision while hopefully being able to add some of my own style and creativity.

In 2019, I decided to start painting images that I had no intention of tattooing. I had no requests, no commissions, no clients, and no idea about what to paint. I did have a few techniques that I wanted to learn, so I focused on that. In order to focus on the actual painting process, I continued to use images that I was familiar with from tattooing, but I painted them in a new and exciting way.

Once I got a grasp on how to create a neon like glow, I knew what images I thought would work the best in this style. That’s when I started doing the neon waves.

Using a combination of acrylic paint, brushes, airbrush, sponges, spray bottles, and paint markers, I bend and twist the waves to fill up and take the shape of the canvas. I build many layers and I love to push the limits of extreme contrast between light and shadow to create depth and flow.

Experimenting with new approaches and applying different methods has improved all aspects of my work and has provided me with a new outlet to explore. I look forward to seeing where these waves take me.
