In poetry, as in music, a caesura is a break or pause between two lines. In the act of reading a poem the duration of the pause is intentional. Sometimes it is used to support or underscore the work of its surrounding lines, other times it can be used in itself as a sort of space to sit with no demands. Time itself stalls in the space between exhale and inhale.
This playful series of images is a small collection of anecdotes told with a sense of humor and poetic grace. It presents its own caesura. We live in an ephemeral and unpredictable world. These images invite you to pause and look, to peer through the glass and breathe deeply with a hurried bus driver, grab an ice cream cone with some nuns or soak in a patch of sunlight.
I believe wholeheartedly in the magic of life. I wake each morning looking for the beautiful, the absurd, the joyful. Formally I am interested in light and shape. I am intrigued by the intersection of the internal and external landscape - the psychic power of art to act as a catalyst that can lift our emotions, art as a vehicle, a sort of visual mantra that lifts us up or resets us back into our preferred place in the order of being. I invite you to hang these images in your space and use them as small rooms you can enter at any moment that you need to take a break.
