ARTIST STATEMENT
As a sculpture artist, I am fascinated by the intricacies of nature and I delight in bringing imaginative ideas to life. I love transforming natural specimens, repurposed materials and found objects into something unique that can bring other people joy.
I started working as a sculpture artist in 2017 and since then I have exhibited my creations at a variety of juried shows in NY, PA, NJ, CT and MD. I spend a lot of time excitedly foraging for natural and repurposed materials to use in my projects and bringing my ideas to life in my South Jersey farm house studio.
For this year's Small Works exhibition, I included one piece from my "Gourd Series" and one piece from my "Frida Series."
"Gourd Bird Cage 1" is crafted using a preserved mini gourd, real bird's nest, wire, cobalt crystal, titanium bead and antique gold paint. It is inspired by my love of antique Victorian and Tunisian bird cages, which I enjoy collecting.
"Citrus Frida 1" is inspired by the hues of the Mediterranean and the colorful whimsy of Frida Kahlo paintings. It is crafted using Talavera tiles and cobalt blue glass over a foam base with a faux citrus topper and cobalt velvet ribbon.
