The works in this submission reference recognizable elements, and are a departure from my mainly abstract imagery.

A few years ago I had created an assemblage which used bird imagery and also some objects - both found as well as created objects - affixed to a cigar box. That cigar box served as the artwork support in addition to being part of the imagery of that piece. The piece, “A Special Perch”, was shown at Powell Lane Arts in 2022. That assemblage must have been lingering in my subconscious mind: I recently remembered that I had a number of cigar boxes sitting on a shelf, and then I saw the call for art featuring birds. And voila: the creative inspiration process had begun! These pieces were particularly inspired by a family member's recent trip to Costa Rica, evoking imagery of brightly colored birds and flowers.
