ARTIST STATEMENT

I presently use acrylic paint on gallery wrapped canvas with neatly painted edges.  I like to work in a series of paintings that relate to each other, and to subjects that draw me in.  The past few months, my series start with a plein aire line drawing of nature, still life, street scenes or a portrait.  The line drawing inspires layers of paint that give depth and interest.  I apply abstracted shapes of color and endeavor to enjoin these layers into unexpected imagery.

Recently, I have been framing my images in clear self-standing acrylic cubes, that I have dubbed “ARTbloks”.  They have a novel 3-D effect.  They rest in a windowsill, or on a flat surface as a paper weight.  They are suitable as coffee table art, floating in natural wood trays that invite one to enjoy rearranging the bloks.
