ARTIST STATEMENT

Experiencing the fluid movements of nature, water, waves and the elements provides a visual vocabulary I express in paint and stone. Transforming the rough surfaces of granite, marble and limestone into fluid feelings gives the blocks an expression of their own. The more the stone is reduced, the more it grows with every blow of the mallet. Stone connects us to our existential past and grounds us with the earth. The additive medium of paint draws on the forms found in stone and the flow of sea and sand - sometimes figurative, at other times abstract. I explore in liquid paint the solid shapes I carve in my sculptures, thinking in three dimensions and aiming to capture the fleeting moments of light and color.
