ARTIST STATEMENT
Two years ago, I started working on a new series of images with the expressed desire to revisit the process of printmaking, notably mono printing. I chose to use colorful and expressive abstracted landscapes as my inspiration. This new series of mono-prints are printed with water-based inks with some additional mixed medium elements added in. For years I had totally immersed myself in the many experiences that painting can afford an artist. I now had to retrace my steps and reexplore a process that I hadn’t engaged in since art school. In the beginning, the process was a bit slow. I had to find my footing, rediscover lost skills, and find some new ones to strengthen and update my visual voice. Two years on I am now ready to push forward and see what lies on the horizon. All these new creative experiences are also being brought back into my classroom. I can now use my new adventures in mixed medium as a talking point with many of my students. The artistic journey, the creative process, the visual decision-making, all of it is part of a process that the students are just beginning to step into as they take their studies in art seriously. I feel in a strange way I too am still on that journey and the act of actively making art supports my own personal artistic journey as it enhances the level of resources that I can offer my students.
