ARTIST STATEMENT
After many years in the high-pressure engineering/business world, being able to freely express myself is a relief from the confines of organizational structure. I find art and my artwork gives me a fresh opportunity to express myself. My work allows me to observe nature and the natural world, and to experiment with new media and subjects. The natural world is the basis for my works and it’s beauty is my inspiration. I’m particularly drawn to the National parks and I’ve been fortunate to have visited and photographed these magnificent places. Overall, landscape, mountains, seasons, lakes & rivers, seascapes, and architecture are my typical subjects. I enjoy the occasional abstract as another means of expression but even my abstracts reflect my love of nature. I love impressionism and try to use it as my style but work usually in a combination of realism and impressionism.
My body of work dates to 1965 where I first studied art in high school. My favorite media are oil, watercolor, acrylic. I also work in pen & ink, charcoal and pencil, and I’ve worked recently with cold wax and oil. I studied art at Empire State College, SUNY, where among other things, I studied art history, drawing and watercolor.
After so many years of work in engineering I realized how much I had missed the creative art process and in 2013 began my art journey again.
