Artist Statement
I have a very inquisitive mind. I love working in several different expressive painting mediums: oil, encaustic wax, mixed media, and alcohol inks. I also love to make welded and ceramic raku sculpture. I find working in different mediums is exhilarating. It brings in new levels of depth and pushes me farther in areas of experimentation which keeps my work fresh and alive as I cross back and forth playing with various art materials. Using fresh approaches also helps me present my subject matter in unique ways and abstractions to explore identity as reflected essences ready to engage with the viewer in a dialogue of wonder, dissolving myths and trickery. “Are you ready to engage?”, they ask.
I love the process of creating, from the initial vision given to me in prayer, the mini sketches, the experimentation process to the finished work. A great example of this are my two dimensional and three dimensional works which have joined together as kintsugi mosaic style paintings made of multiple layers of cut woods and various different art and salvage materials. The artwork I create transforms homes shifting the atmosphere by bringing in the joy of the Lord and the vibrant colors of heaven. I invite you to go closer, look deeper, there’s more calling you to see!
I believe my artworks become truly complete when they fulfill their mission in people's homes and workplaces through the relationship and dialogue the viewer brings to them every day.
