Artist Statement

My artistic journey began in the sixties. I minored in art and took several art classes from a beloved art teacher in High School where I began exploring a variety of art media. I discovered I loved it all. My favorite media was and still is, oil with acrylics and watercolor second. My major motivation is love of nature and the natural world. Even the occasional abstract is driven by nature. After high school, there was hope for advanced art education. Unfortunately, naval military service and Vietnam, college raising a family and a 40 year career in engineering got in the way of advancing my art education.

My retirement finally came in 2013 and my passion fully resumed. I established my studio at the Art Station, Hightstown, New Jersey. My process is relatively simple and traditional. I sketch both in the _eld and studio. I often use composite photos to create unique compositions or realism/impressionistic versions of photos I’ve taken or from others. I use underpainting followed by creating values, blocking in major features and then final painting. I love texture and often use the palette knife to bring out extra texture, depth and interest to my works. I’m so happy to be creating art again and love sharing my work with others.
